A tireless advocate for children and families, Alyia Gaskins works to build healthy, equitable communities. As Assistant Director of Networks and Programs for the Center for Community Investment, she helps communities mobilize resources like land, investment capital, and expertise to expand access to healthy food, affordable housing, and transit. As Senior Associate at the National League of Cities, Alyia helped hundreds of municipalities pass policies to help children grow up healthier and thrive, with an emphasis on promoting access to healthy food though former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Cities, Towns, and Counites initiative. Alyia began her career as a Policy and Program Associate at D.C. Hunger Solutions, an initiative of the Food Research and Action Center. At D.C Hunger Solutions, she collaborated with community partners to pass and implement polices such as the D.C. Healthy Schools Act and the D.C. Healthy Tots Act to increase access to nutritious meals for children. Alyia serves on the Alexandria Transportation Commission, Women of Color in Community Development Board of Directors, Prevention Connections Board of Directors, Make-A-Wish Community Council, and Good Shepherd Housing Leadership Council.
